Install in rear cargo area direct to sheet metal as a sound blanket. DO NOT PUT SOUND DEADENER UNDERNEATH THIS.

Car Builders Stage 1 Sound Deadener is a vibration (sound) dampening mat. It consists of a butyl rubber noise absorption layer combined with an aluminium top layer.

Each box has 12 sheets, each sheet is 300x500mm and 2mm-2.2mm thick. 

Car Builders butyl based Sound Deadener does not require heating, does not smell and will not go brittle over time, which are all qualities of old style tar or bitumen sound deadening materials.

Car Builders Sound Deadener has pressure sensitive butyl rubber, which is inherently sticky eliminating the risk of an adhesive layer failing.

Sound Deadening FAQ

The Mass Noise Liner Joining Kit comes complete with our mass loaded vinyl in its raw form to match our Mass Noise Liner products. Together with our specific cyanoacrylate glue this kit allows you to patch any relief cuts, overlap and join your sound barrier layer to create a total seal.

Our Door Restore Kit comes complete with OE plastic and adhesive sealant tape to water proof door cavities before interior trim is installed.

Without any waterproof barrier your timber door trims are exposed to water and moisture that passes through the inner door cavity. The nature of water will lead to distorting timber door cards and potentially mould in your door trims.

We have put together a premium heavy weight plastic film which comes over sized ready to stick down to any door shape.

Application:

1. Apply the black waterproof seal tape to the perimeter of the door, ensuring you leave door trim mounts exposed.
TIP* When you get to tight corner remove a portion of the tape backing to allow the tape to bend and make a neat radius.

2. Remove the film off the water proof tape

3. Stretch out the protective film and touch it down on the waterproof seal tape. Apply pressure where the film contacts to create a strong bond.

4. With a utility knife cut around the outside perimeter of the seal path to remove the excess film and create that original factory finish.

Two door - Door restore kit:

Car Builders Mass Noise Liner is a 12mm thick, heavy weight, acoustic barrier. This product is used over the top of sound deadening (stage 1) which is applied directly onto the sheet metal. Sound deadening stops noise created by panel vibration whereas Mass Noise Liner (stage 2) reduces air borne noise generated from the engine, road etc. This premium carpet underlay is an OEM product used in high-end luxury vehicles. Mass Noise Liner replaces cotton jute or shoddy, creating far superior sound proofing results.

Construction
2mm Mass Loaded vinyl upper layer, coupled with an 10mm closed cell foam to create the most effective means of acoustic blocking. Our flexible closed cell foam is water resistant and offers superior thermal insulation.

It is not 100% necessary to put Stage 1 Sound Deadener underneath Mass Noise Liner on cargo area floors or van floors due to the metal already being fairly rigid from the ribs. The Mass Noise Liner will be an effective floor sound proofing by itself.

Note: due to the weight of our Mass Noise Liner it is not recommended for use on the underside of horizontal surfaces. For these applications you should use our light weight foam such as Acoustic Liner, Water proof carpet underlay, Under bonnet insulation or our 6mm Insul-layer.

Car Builders Water Proof Carpet Underlay is a single layer, closed cell foam, meaning it does not hold water. It also works great as a thermal and acoustic insulation barrier.

It is suitable for 4x4's, convertibles and industrial vehicles, which get constantly exposed to wet environments.

Car Builders Water Proof Carpet Underlay will not stay damp, smell, rot or attract mould like pre-dated cotton mill scrap, traditionally used under carpets.

It comes with a peel and stick backing and is easy to cut and install. It is also effective as a thermal barrier to reduce heat transfer from the exterior of your vehicle.  The material will reduce radiant heat by up to 20°C, and can be the difference between discomfort and pleasure.

These highly charge cans feature an easy to use adjustable nozzle which spray out in a thick splatter type pattern. Not to be mistake for fine mist contact adhesive this is an Industrial grade glue that will cover large surfaces.

 Simply spray both surfaces allow a short amount of time to tack and bond 2 x materials together.

Spray about 10-20 cm away at a 90 degree angle to the surface, applying a uniform, even coat of adhesive to obtain 80% to 100% coverage of the
surface. If necessary, spray another coat of adhesive in areas that appear to need more adhesive. Spray both surfaces to be bonded, one surface vertically and the other surface horizontally. Allow the adhesive to tack off until no adhesive transfers to the knuckle when touched. Adhere surfaces and press together with adequate pressure. A roller is recommended to apply a uniform pressure to achieve maximum strength. Allow 24 hours for the adhesive to fully cure.

The essential kit when installing your peel and stick products.

The kit includes:

1 x Application roller - 50mm wide timber wheel with rounded edges, rolling on sealed bearings. Comfortable timber handle which doubles as a tapered end to work sound deadener sheets into corrugations on your floor pan.

1 x Utility Knife - Fold away with quick change double side blades. 5 x spare blades will surpass the install and make for a neat stock in your tool kit..

1 x Roll of Aluminium Foil Tape - 38mm wide x 10 meters long. Our premium tape is 0.05mm thick, making it strong and robust to cover all joints and neatly complete the job. This tape is sure to come in handy for any build, in various places on your vehicle.

Car Builders Insul-Layer is a peel and stick closed cell foam designed to fit in tight areas. It offers acoustic and thermal insulation, prevents condensation and is very affordable.  

Our Insul-Layer will not rot, attract mould and is easy to cut and apply.

NOTE: For all inverted or vertical applications that will be covered in carpet/fabric (IE having more weight added to the surface of the Insul-Layer), we recommend applying an upholstery grade Spray Adhesive rate at 120°C.

What are the rules for applying a peel & stick product?

It is vitally important when laying a peel & stick product that the surface is thoroughly cleaned to remove any grim or dirt. We use a wax and grease remover. If you use a product such as methylated spirits or turps, as these are oil based, they will leave a residue that can affect the bond. Use a isopropyl alcohol (wax and grease remover) to remove this film.

Peel & stick products adhere well to metal surfaces, however if you are sticking the product to porous or rough materials, such as factory bitumen sound deadener, the product will require additional Spray Adhesive. 

Peel & stick products should not be stretched when applied to a surface as the material will eventually want to 'pop' back.

You need to ensure that peel & stick products are thoroughly rolled down, with pressure applied across the entire product to ensure that it has firmly adhered to the surface. We use an Application Roller.

If you find an air bubble, you should pierce the bubble to release the trapped air and roll the product down firmly.

We recommend using additional spray adhesive when using products in inverted positions or if you are directly adding further weight onto the product, such as glueing 4-way stretch carpet to the product's surface.

Car Builders Acoustic Liner is a multi-layer open and closed cell foam with a peel and stick backing. It offers a high level of acoustic and thermal insulation superior to that of traditional jute underlay.

Car Builders premium underlay is today's answer to predated jute and cotton mill scrap traditionally used under carpets. Acoustic Liner will not rot, attract mold, is easy to cut and does not require the application of glue (unless it is being laid in an inverted position).
