What is a parabolic spring? 
Parabolic Leaf Springs typically contain fewer leafs than traditional leaf packs and get their name from their tapered “parabolic” design, meaning they are thicker in the centre and thinner at the ends. Already a well-established idea in the trucking industry, Terrain Tamer have applied their own carefully researched design and modern technology, and use a special grade steel to develop their range of Parabolic Leaf Springs specifically for 4WD vehicles.

How do parabolic springs work?
Traditionally heavy linear leaf packs can also be uncomfortable and loud and can create a safety issue, as they offer little to no flex, meaning that when a driver hits a bump, or finds themselves in a rough offroad situation, the rigidity of the leaf pack will cause the opposite wheel will lift, spinning and losing traction, ceasing drive and effectively endangering the driver. In a Parabolic spring, the tapered design of each leaf allows the stress to be distributed more evenly across the spring, and each leaf is allowed to work independently with enhanced flex without sacrificing load capacity, and keeping all four wheels on the ground.

What are the advantages of parabolic springs? 
This design of Parabolic Springs eliminates the weight of often heavy, thick, traditional leaf packs and dramatically reducing the unsprung weight of the vehicle, essentially freeing up the weight needed for practical use. This lower unsprung weight addresses the issue of GVM limits, and also acts to create a more comfortable ride when the vehicle is unloaded, accommodating the varying and ever-changing applications that the modern day 4WD is used for, freeing up weight for towing heavy loads, carrying tools or touring with the family, and ensuring it is comfortable whether empty or loaded. The Parabolic shape also provides better axle articulation, as well as almost no interleaf friction, allowing the spring to compress or extend with ease without touching each other until there is a reasonable load on the vehicle. This feature means that the springs are not only quieter, but it also acts to help minimise any issues with rust build up, which can be a major cause of failure in standard leaf springs.

Do parabolic springs offer better flex?
The Parabolic design allows the spring to flex while still providing the strength needed to bear the weight of heavy loads. This is particularly useful in 4WD applications that carry excessive load on the driveline, or when challenged with difficult terrain, as the flex afforded with a Parabolic Spring lets it give a little when the driver hits a bump in the road, allowing the differential housing to rotate with the springs and effectively providing a smoother ride, reducing the shock transferred to the crown wheel and pinion, stopping the wheel from spinning and maintaining safety and drive. The same force with a standard leaf pack would almost certainly cause more shock to the vehicle and driver

Car Builders Mass Noise Liner is a 12mm thick, heavy weight, acoustic barrier. This product is used over the top of sound deadening (stage 1) which is applied directly onto the sheet metal. Sound deadening stops noise created by panel vibration whereas Mass Noise Liner (stage 2) reduces air borne noise generated from the engine, road etc. This premium carpet underlay is an OEM product used in high-end luxury vehicles. Mass Noise Liner replaces cotton jute or shoddy, creating far superior sound proofing results.

It is not 100% necessary to put Stage 1 Sound Deadener underneath Mass Noise Liner on cargo area floors or van floors due to the metal already being fairly rigid from the ribs. The Mass Noise Liner will be an effective floor sound proofing by itself.

What are the rules for applying a peel & stick product?

It is vitally important when laying a peel & stick product that the surface is thoroughly cleaned to remove any grim or dirt. We use a wax and grease remover. If you use a product such as methylated spirits or turps, as these are oil based, they will leave a residue that can affect the bond. Use a isopropyl alcohol (wax and grease remover) to remove this film.

Peel & stick products adhere well to metal surfaces, however if you are sticking the product to porous or rough materials, such as factory bitumen sound deadener, the product will require additional Spray Adhesive. 

Peel & stick products should not be stretched when applied to a surface as the material will eventually want to 'pop' back.

You need to ensure that peel & stick products are thoroughly rolled down, with pressure applied across the entire product to ensure that it has firmly adhered to the surface. We use an Application Roller.

If you find an air bubble, you should pierce the bubble to release the trapped air and roll the product down firmly.

We recommend using additional spray adhesive when using products in inverted positions or if you are directly adding further weight onto the product, such as glueing 4-way stretch carpet to the product's surface.

Car Builders Water Proof Carpet Underlay is a single layer, closed cell foam, meaning it does not hold water. It also works great as a thermal and acoustic insulation barrier.

It is suitable for 4x4's, convertibles and industrial vehicles, which get constantly exposed to wet environments.

Car Builders Water Proof Carpet Underlay will not stay damp, smell, rot or attract mould like pre-dated cotton mill scrap, traditionally used under carpets.

It comes with a peel and stick backing and is easy to cut and install. It is also effective as a thermal barrier to reduce heat transfer from the exterior of your vehicle.  The material will reduce radiant heat by up to 20°C, and can be the difference between discomfort and pleasure.
